Remember that with epubs you can rename them to zip files and then unzip the files to examine everything. Unfortunately while it is relatively easy to figure out epub issues, Kindlegen sometimes produces strange errors, and the best solution is to keep removing chapters until you get a version that works. AFAIK, jhowell, has reverse-engineered parts of Kindle Previewer for his Calibre KFX plugin. Kindle requires a virtual table of contents at the front of the ebook, and your toc.xhtml would normally contain links to all the chapters. Why is it linking to itself? That is definitely something which might confuse Kindlegen. But the Go to Table of Contents function is not working. I manually created a table of contents with hyperlinks at the start of the book and this works fine. Probably the strangest thing to me when I examine your epub file is that toc.xhtml (on line 24) lists itself as an item in the TOC. I converted it to a mobi using KindlePreview after a bit of help from this forum everything looks great Im ready to upload to Amazon. This is probably an issue with Kindlegen, but there are times when Calibre is incompatible with kindle. When I read it on Kindle Previewer the Go To menu grays out the TOC and says I have no table of contents. It's very strange that the epub file validates. My book is in docx, converted to hml and then to mobi by Kinglegen. Perhaps 5824-Section.xhtml seems to be causing the issue. When you press Ctrl+t in the previewer it says that there is no toc.
